Danny DeVito is a hugely popular actor who has tens of thousands of followers all over the world. The actor married his longtime girlfriend Rhea Perlman in 1982 and, despite their divorce a few years ago, they never divorced…
This is Danny DeVito’s life narrative…
Danny DeVito is a well-known actor who has played a variety of roles. He is loved and admired by people of all ages. In the 1970s, the actor made his film debut. Since then, he has had a wonderfully successful career, appearing in several critically acclaimed films and television series, including the iconic sitcom Taxi.
While working on Broadway in 1971, he met his future wife Rhea Perlman.
Both DeVito and Perlman are from the east coast. Danny was born in 1944 in Neptune, New Jersey, and Rhea arrived four years later in Brooklyn, New York.
DeVito was ridiculed as a child due of his height.
“I was plagued; I couldn’t slow-dance with the girls I wanted to because my face would be in a spot where I might be thought of as moving too fast,” he said in an interview with Far Out Magazine.
As a youngster, DeVito appeared in numerous school plays but did not feel that a career in acting was conceivable, despite the fact that it was what he desired. Rhea Perlman, on the other hand, aspired to be an actress in the future. Even as teenagers, the two had certain things in common.
Rhea knew she wanted to leave Brooklyn and finally traveled to Manhattan to study acting at Hunter College.
The journey to professional acting for DeVito is best characterized as a kiss from Lady Luck herself.
He had spent two years working at his sister’s hair shop before enrolling in makeup training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. There was just one catch to attending such classes: no matter what subject you were doing at the Academy, you had to deliver a monologue.
Surprisingly, the professors were so taken by DeVito that they advised him transfer to acting lessons instead. He graduated from the American Academy in 1966.
Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito both began their careers as actors in this manner. Rhea stayed on the east coast doing Off-Broadway productions, while Danny went to Hollywood. Needless to say, things did not turn out as he had hoped.
“I worked as a car parker, and I hung around the Sunset Strip with all the flower children,” he said. “I had long hair, wore a raincoat, and sneakers, and I fit right in.” But I really wanted to perform.”
DeVito ultimately opted to return to New York City and engage in Off-Broadway productions. Rhea and Danny’s paths intersected for the first time in 1970.
Rhea and a friend went to watch an Off-Broadway show in which Danny DeVito was starring one night. He portrayed a deranged stable boy who could only communicate in monosyllables. Rhea, for one, thought it was incredibly appealing.
“He sang a song that didn’t make any sense at all,” Rhea told The Daily Times in 1983. “It sounded like a mating call.” If he wasn’t married, I knew I had to meet him. So we set up a date.”
Rhea and Danny DeVito went out after the concert and hit it off right away.
“He was a lot more fun and a lot more sexy,” Rhea said in 1983 to People.
“She was vibrant, with a great sense of humor, and real warm,” he said.
They had been romantically connected for quite some time before deciding to marry in 1982. Lucy Grace, their eldest daughter, was born a year after their wedding.
They had their second daughter, Grace Fan, in 1985, and their youngest child, Jake, in 1987.
After 35 years of marriage, the pair announced their divorce in 2017. People couldn’t believe it because the pair seemed to get along so well.
They have not yet completed their divorce. Despite their divorce, they maintain a friendly connection in order to be the best parents they can be to their children.
Lucy, their eldest daughter, has frequently expressed gratitude for her parents’ understanding of her struggles as an actor. She went on to say, “I feel so lucky because [when] a lot of my friends who are actors go through the ups and downs, their families don’t understand how hard it can be.” “I am very close to my parents,” she adds. It’s incredible that I can seek guidance from my parents.
Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman’s three children all followed in their parents’ footsteps.
Lucy Chet DeVito received her bachelor’s degree in drama from Brown University. She had tiny roles with credits on her father’s successful television program It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia before she had even finished her degree.
She was interviewed on The Rich Eisen Show in 2022, and she spoke about her parents, expressing their praises.
“They’re amazing parents, and they’re in the spotlight, of course,” she remarked. “And everyone knows who they are, but they’re very down-to-earth people.”
In the 2016 film The Comedian, she portrayed Danny DeVito’s daughter. Danny, on the other hand, enjoys working with his daughter. “I just adore working with Lucy,” he said in an interview. We’ve been collaborating since she was this size.”
Grace, their secondborn daughter, has followed in her parents’ footsteps by pursuing a career in Hollywood, however she chooses to work behind the camera rather than in front of it.
She does, however, act and has roles in the 2015 film Amboy and the 2017 TV series Jeff & Some Aliens.
Despite her Hollywood profession, she maintains a quiet profile. She appeared on the red carpet with her family at a function in New York City in September 2003, and she also attended the December 2013 premiere of the series Kirstie.
Their third and youngest kid is Jake, who has a Hollywood career as well. In 2014, he made his acting debut in the film The Better Angeles, playing a tiny role.
He also demonstrated his acting abilities in the film Curmudgeon, which was directed and produced by his father. He has worked in the sound, cinematography, and electrical departments for a variety of films and projects throughout the years.
It’s wonderful to hear that Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman’s family is doing well despite their decision to divorce. We express our warmest wishes to this family.
