Andie MacDowell, a well-known actor who first appeared on television in the 1980s, is now preaching gray pride. She was formerly known for her unusually curly brown hair.
MacDowell, who is aging gracefully, admits she likes “comparing herself to George Clooney, because why not?”
Andie MacDowell, a 65-year-old natural beauty, has nothing to hide. On April 21st, she became a senior citizen.The southern belle started her career as a model for expensive brands such as Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Calvin Klein. She made her cinematic debut with Greystroke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes in 1984. MacDowell played Jane in the Oscar-nominated film, but Glenn Close dubbed her voice because MacDowell’s drawl was too thick.
Then, in a supporting role in St. Elmo’s Fire, the soft-spoken, stunning actor captivated the audience by starring alongside the close-knit Brat Pack.
She then acted in Steven Soderbergh’s debut feature film, Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989), for which she received her first Golden Globe nomination.
Her financial breakthrough came with her main role alongside Bill Murray in the iconic 1983 picture Groundhog Day, which influenced popular culture for decades. Her celebrity increased even further after she appeared in Hugh Grant’s comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral (1984).
After becoming well-known as a method actor, MacDowell went on to appear in a number of films, including Harrison’s Flowers and the family television series Cedar Cove.It should come as no surprise that MacDowell, with her stunning brown hair, was picked to appear in television commercials for L’Oréal hair products.
MacDowell, who was recently pictured out and about in Cannes, proudly shows off her makeup-free visage, which is framed by her low bun of now-gray, silver hair.
The Green Card star showed off her natural beauty while attending the 76th Cannes Film Festival. She donned a comfy white striped minidress with dark sunglasses and brown and black platform heels.
Before Covid, MacDowell stated that she embraced the coming of her gray hair. In an interview with Vogue, she said, “My hair started growing at the beginning of quarantine, and every time my kids saw me, they told me I looked badass with my gray hair.” When I rolled it up in a bun, all you could see was salt and pepper, which is precisely how I am—dark and silver. Why not? I adore making similarities between myself and George Clooney. I’ve been saying for a while now that it was time for me to make that adjustment since it suited my personality and who I am.
She also remarked that if she embraces her current situation, she would get stronger, despite the fact that her management advised her that “it’s not the time” for her to become gray. Now is the time…I won’t have the opportunity to be salt and pepper if I don’t do it now. I have always wanted to be pepper and salt.McDowell was on the cover of Style magazine in 2022, displaying her natural beauty and gray hair.”As we age, we deserve dignity and pride,” she wrote. “We deserve to feel glorious,” she continued. I have always believed that beauty has no expiration date.
Her acting career also has no end in sight.
In 2021, MacDowell appeared in the Netflix drama series Main alongside her 28-year-old daughter Margaret Qualley, whom she shares with her ex-husband Paul Qualley. MacDowell and Qualley have two further children, son Justin and daughter Rainey. They married in 1986 and divorced in 1999.
“You walk into the room and you have your mom playing your mom—that’s the biggest cheat in the world,” Margaret said in an interview with USA Today about working with her parents. That includes the natural eye rolls you get anytime your mother says something. The young girl goes on to explain a moment in Maid when her mother, played by Paula, tells her character, Alex, “that she’s proud of her.” It was one of the finest things that had ever happened to me, and I felt like my mother was telling me how proud she was of me.Currently, MacDowell is filming Goodrich, which stars Mila Kunis, Michael Keaton, and Kevin Pollak. MacDowell previously featured alongside Keaton in the 1996 film Multiplicity.
The film’s director and writer is Hallie Meyerers-Shyer, who, like Margaret, is one of many “no babies” born to rising stars and starlets with immensely known parents.
Hallie, the child actor who has appeared in numerous of her parents’ films, including Father of the Bride and What Women Want, is the daughter of Nancy Meyers (Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated) and Charles Shyer (Baby Boom).
Kaia Gerber, a well-known model whose mother is Cindy Crawford, is dating Austin Butler, the actor of the forthcoming biopic Elvis (2022), and Maya Hawke, daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, who appears in the blockbuster Netflix series Stranger Things.
Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, is well-known for her role in the Fifty Shades trilogy, while Colin, Tom Hank’s son, has been in several films and television shows.
MacDowell expressed optimism that she will have more opportunities to act alongside her kid in the meantime.
“Every moment was precious to me,” she explained. I was terrified this might never happen again, therefore I was determined to succeed since it meant everything to me.
