Andie MacDowell, a popular performer who first emerged on the screen in the 1980s and was formerly recognized for her characteristic curly brown tresses, is now fighting for gray pride as a silver-haired diva.
MacDowell, who is gracefully aging, says she likes to “compare herself to George Clooney, because why not?”
Andie MacDowell, a 65-year-old natural beauty with nothing to conceal, has been a senior citizen since her birthday on April 21.
Beginning her modeling career with Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Calvin Klein, the southern belle made her cinematic debut in 1984’s Greystroke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. Because her drawl was too strong for the character of Jane in the Oscar-nominated film, MacDowell performed, but Glenn Close dubbed her voice.
The soft-spoken, attractive actor subsequently charmed fans in a supporting role on St. Elmo’s Fire, alongside the tight-knit Brat Pack.
She subsequently made her directing debut with Steven Soderbergh’s Sex, Lies, and Videotape (1989), for which she received her first Golden Globe nomination.
But it was her leading performance alongside Bill Murray in Groundhog Day (1983), a film that affected popular culture decades later, that launched her financial fame, which was boosted further following the comedy Four Weddings and a Funeral (1984) starring Hugh Grant.
MacDowell, known as a method actor, went on to play a variety of characters in films such as Harrison’s Flowers and the family TV series Cedar Cove.
Not surprisingly, MacDowell was chosen to promote L’Oréal hair products in television advertising.
MacDowell, who was recently photographed on a casual trip in Cannes, proudly shows off her make-up-free face, which is framed by her now gray-silver hair, which was twisted into a low bun.
The Green Card star, who was in town for the 76th Cannes Film Festival, looked stunning in a comfy white striped little dress that she matched with brown and black platform shoes and dark sunglasses.
MacDowell had stated that she welcomed the arrival of her gray hair during Covid. “At the very beginning of quarantine, my hair started growing and every time my kids would see me, they kept telling me I looked badass with my gray hair,” she revealed in an interview with Vogue. “All you could see when I pulled it up in a bun was the salt and pepper, which is what I am, you know, dark and silver.” Why not? I prefer to compare myself to George Clooney. I’ve been saying for a long time that it was time for me to make that change since it seemed right for my personality and who I am.”
“I’m going to be more powerful if I embrace where I am right now,” she remarked, despite her managers’ claims that “it’s not time” for her to go gray. It’s time…If I don’t act now, I won’t be able to be salt and pepper. “I’ve always desired to be salt and pepper!”
McaDowell flaunted her gray hair and natural appearance on the cover of Style magazine in 2022. She captioned it, “As we age, we deserve dignity and pride.” “We deserve to feel glorious!” she continued. “I’ve always said that beauty has no expiration date.”
Her acting career likewise has no set end date.
In 2021, MacDowell co-starred in the Netflix drama series Maid with her ex-husband Paul Qualley’s daughter Margaret Qualley, 28. MacDowell and Qualley have two further children, son Justin and daughter Rainey, whom they married in 1986 and divorced in 1999.
Margaret told USA Today of working with her mother, “You walk in the room and your mom is playing your mom–that’s the biggest cheat in the world.” That starts with the natural eye rolls that occur when your mother says something.” The little performer goes on to say that there’s a scene in Maid where her mother, who plays Paula, tells her character, Alex, that “she’s proud of her.” It seemed like my mother was telling me how pleased she was of me, and it was one of the best things that had ever occurred to me.”
MacDowell is now shooting Goodrich, which stars Mila Kunis, Kevin Pollak, and Michael Keaton, with whom she co-starred in 1996’s Multiplicity.
Hallie Meyers-Shyer, who, like Margaret, is one of many “nepo babies” of rising stars and starlets with very famous parents, wrote and directed the film.
Hallie, the daughter of Nancy Meyers (Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated) and Charles Shyer (Baby Boom), debuted as a child actor in films such as Father of the Bride and What Women Want.
Maya Hawke, the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, stars in the hit Netflix program Stranger Things, and Kaia Gerber, whose mother is Cindy Crawford, is a world-renowned model who is dating Austin Butler, who plays Elvis Presley in the biopic Elvis (2022).
Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, is well-known for her role in the Fifty Shades of Grey film trilogy, while Tom Hanks’ son Colin has acted in a number of films and television shows.
Meanwhile, MacDowell expressed her desire for further acting chances with her kid.
“Every moment was precious to me,” she explained. I was determined to do an excellent job since it meant everything to me because I was afraid it would never happen again.”
